Yala National Park

Southern Province, Sri Lanka — 45 min from Tissamaharama

Overview

Yala National Park is Sri Lanka's most celebrated wildlife sanctuary and one of the best places in the world to spot leopards in the wild. Spanning 979 square kilometres across the country's south-eastern dry zone, the park is divided into five blocks — with Block I being the most visited for its extraordinary density of leopards.

Beyond leopards, Yala is home to over 44 species of mammals including elephants, sloth bears, spotted deer, sambar, wild boar, and crocodiles. The park's diverse landscapes range from dense monsoon forest and open grasslands to coastal sand dunes, lagoons, and rocky outcrops.
